EAEA is a European NGO with 133 member organisations in 43 countries and represents more than 60 million learners Europe-wide; its purpose is to link and represent European organisations directly involved in adult learning.
EAEA promotes adult learning and access to and participation in non-formal adult education for all.

In the field of employment, social affairs and inclusion, political responsibility is shared between the EU and the member countries.
The European Commission:
- coordinates and monitors national policies
- promotes the sharing of good practices in fields such as employment, poverty and social exclusion and pensions
- adopts legislation and verifies its application in areas such as rights at work and the coordination of social security schemes
